Goal: Address mental health to students on campus during finals
While in wkrm, a design studio run by UT students and led by faculty director Jiwon Park, we wanted to address mental health issues on campus by designing positive experiences to encourage self-care. We wanted to create with compassion, spread feelings of reassurance, and give people a more approachable and light-hearted way of discussing mental health. This project consists of self-care kits and an interactive installation to bring positive emotions to students during the most stressful time of the semester: finals week.
Self-care Kits
Each easy-to-carry bubble wrap kit included ten items carefully chosen to help reduce stress! The self-care kit consisted of stickers, tea, essential oils, a stress ball, chocolate, a coloring self-guide book, colored pencils, buttons, messaging cards, and a fortune cookie.
Capsule Machine
The installation featured a custom-made capsule machine that delivered encouraging messages and stress-relieving products to our peers. The capsule machine was placed in The Perry-Castañeda Library during finals weeks, free for students to enjoy during an otherwise stressful and gray time of the year. The colorful capsules included chocolate, buttons, stickers, a chance to win a full kit and other goodies.
This project was mentioned in a UT College of Fine Arts article and in The Daily Texan.
